First rule of thumb for camping food is to keep cold foods way cold and hot foods way hot. This is just one of many camping food safety tips. Some of the others include making sure that your water source stays safe and way clean. Two coolers should be used separately. One cooler is to be reserved strictly for the storage of perishable items and the other for soft drinks, snack, and whatever else.
The extreme temperature change can make the quality of your winter camping gear much more important and making sure it can withstand potential temperature variations as well as extreme conditions will help you survive on a winter camping trip. No one goes into the wild on a winter hike expecting to be caught in a sudden storm or to slide down an icy embankment and break a leg, but unfortunately, it does happen.
