Eating in the wilderness is a whole new ball game in itself and requires careful planning that should include selecting and carrying the proper camping cooking gear. On a camping trip, you will be close to nature and thus your choice of available food may be limited and you may be constrained to eating canned food as well as simple cooked dishes. Your camping cooking gear will determine what type of food you will be able to eat.

When you are on the trail, or in a campground, you are going to want to eat and will probably grow tired of eating freeze-dried meals after a few days. Carrying canned goods can be heavy and unless you are hauling everything in a trailer or in a vehicle, you will some foods that can be cooked together to make tasty, nourishing meals. There are many items you can add to your outdoors camping gear that will make cooking outdoors more enjoyable. Lightweight stockpots made to withstand being used over an open fire can help you boil water or make stew and are much lighter than steel or stoneware. Sandwich makers are made to be held over open fires and in them you can place meats and cheese with bread to make hot sandwiches or even jelly and jam to make hot desserts. When you have the appropriate outdoors camping gear you can make any camping experience enjoyable, but the trick is going to be figuring out what you need and insuring you have it when you it is needed.
