Camping Tips | Hiking Pants

October 31st, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Unless your trip is a short one, you should plan on a means to relieve yourself and carry personal hygiene items in with your winter camping gear to make sure you can remain healthy while on the trail. Maintaining your cleanliness in the wild is just as important as when you are at home and since washing your hands before every meal may not be possible, packing some waterless sanitizing solution can help you remain healthy while camping.

As you move through some of the beautiful trails, hiking pants will protect you from the brush that could put a bad scratch on a leg or foot. Any kind of injury could cut short a great trip. Many people cannot go hiking every day because they have other responsibilities. When an individual gets the chance to go hiking, they do not want the trip cut short because they have some type of injury. A good pair of hiking pants could help any hiker escape many different types of injuries. Most people do not want to return home after a short time on a trail because they are too cold. A good pair of hiking pants can keep a hiker warm enough to enjoy their time out in the wilderness.

Hiking Shoes | Wisconsin Hiking

October 31st, 2007 | Rod | Hiking

For those people who live close to nature and can go hiking whenever they desire, a good pair of hiking shoes is like an extension of their feet. For those who don’t get to hike unless they are on vacation, understanding the process of buying a good hiking shoe is important. It is choice between having a good time and being miserable with blisters and sore feet. Even for people who don’t get to hike a lot, having proper foot wear is as important as all of the rest of the gear that you will require for camping. Everyone has had a blister at some point of his life, and remembering the pain should be enough incentive to buy the right hiking shoes.

When you enter the state of Wisconsin, you will notice that it is rich in both manmade and natural history. This is why hikers find adventure in the hilly terrains of Sidie Hollow and in the bluffs of Perrot State Park. Towards the center of the state is the remote and wild Black River State Forest, which is populated with timber wolves. However, no hiker will want to miss out on the Ice Age Trail that is a special attraction for those wanting to experience the best of Wisconsin hiking. The 1000-mile Ice Age Trail gets its name from the glaciations that occurred there during the Ice Age. This scenic trail has many segments of various lengths that wind their way from the southern edge of the continental glacier, which covered fifty percent of Wisconsin and has since been declared a national scenic trail.

Luxury Camping Gear | Leather Hiking Boots

October 30th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

For those campers who feel luxury camping gear includes staying clean while camping and will only shower when the water is the right temperature, the Zodi Hot Camp Shower is made for them. It weighs about eight pounds and uses a small camp propane bottle to heat the water. It’s sort of like a water heater. It has a three hour limit for hot water. Another luxury camping gear item to take along while roughing it in the wild is the GSI Lexan Javapress. Most people that camp make cowboy coffee that has the grounds floating around in the pot. But now, people can enjoy coffee with the java press. There are several models that make between a half liter and one and a half liters of gourmet coffee. It is only eleven ounces and costs around twenty dollars. GSI also makes back country champagne flutes and cocktail shakers.

Buying leather hiking boots is a great choice, but be prepared to put a lot of care into the boots to keep them in good condition. The simplest step in caring for hiking boots is to clean them off after each use. Remember that dirt is abrasive and over time can wear down the surface of the boot. When cleaning off leather boots, try to dry them completely before brushing loose dirt off, since repeated prolonged exposure to wetness can dry the leather out.

Camping Chairs | Tuscany Hiking

October 29th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Some camping chairs are designed with the active camper in mind, made of nothing more than a seat with a single leg on a hinge. The seat folds up flat with the leg tucked under the bottom and sets up quickly, with a flip of the wrist. While they are not exceptionally comfortable they can supply a place to sit quickly as well as be taken down by the lake or river to sit on, keeping the rest of the body off the dirt. Folding camping chairs that merely fold in half are much more comfortable but also take up more room the car’s trunk or the bed of the pick-up truck. They may also have attached or removable cushions some padded and some just straps of plastic or nylon. Few will question the comfort level of their camping chairs as their main concern is having a place to sit that is not on the ground.

Tuscany hiking tours present an opportunity to view one of the oldest cultures in the world. It also presents the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world while hiking past vineyards and homes that have been there for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years. Italy is world renowned for its cultural wonders. It is a country known for beautiful art, good food, and great wine. The area of Tuscany is one the most popular destinations for those seeking to truly get a feel for the culture and people of Italy, and a Tuscany hiking tour grants the opportunity to see some truly gorgeous scenery.

Camping Hammocks | Hunting And Camping Gear

October 29th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Camping hammocks are very different one from the other and this especially applies to hammocks as a whole group. Hammocks not only have versatility in their favor on the average. But all of them and each of them individually offer relaxation and serve as a tremendous means of comfort for those who need them most. A good many hammocks are also not high in cost and they can serve for different purposes considering the needs of each owner per se. Despite their differences though all hammocks do offer relaxation with each and every one of them no matter what else they have.

One of the most necessary pieces of hunting and camping gear is a good pack of some sort. When you’re camping, you need something to carry all your essentials while hiking to your camping spot, and while you’re hunting, you want to have something to carry everything you’ll need while trying to get a good kill. The key is to find a piece of hunting and camping gear that can handle both tasks equally well. For hunting, this often means packs with rattle-free zippers, places to hold hunting supplies, and even game that’s been cut up. However, a pack should still sit as easily on the shoulders as one made for solely for camping.

Hiking Staffs | Camping Food

October 28th, 2007 | Rod | Hiking

For some, a one-piece cheap pool cue will work just the same and if they can find one at a thrift store for a buck or two, if they throw it away after a single use, they do not consider it a big loss. For many, a stick they find along the trail will work as a hiking staff just as well as any aluminum or graphite pole they can buy. They just want something that is functional and appearance is unimportant. The size of the hiking staff is personal preference as well, but should be slight longer than the user is tall for better use when climbing and descending hills. The thickness should be substantial enough to support the weight of the user, but skinny enough to comfortably fit the user’s grip.

Just because you’re outdoors and around nature doesn’t mean your choice of camping food need not be primitive in detail. Because of the limitations in your coolers or backpacks or even travel trailer how you prepare your foods may be limited. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t have a variety of good food on hand to fight the hungries that come along with outside adventure. If you’re not camping during cold weather a rule of thumb is to bring along any kinds of food that doesn’t have to be refrigerated. As you don’t have to worry about them going bad and so forth as they are considered to be perishables.

Camping Stoves | Hiking Gear

October 28th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

While cooking over an open fire is fun, sometimes you want to have something that allows you to create better meals, and that’s what makes a camp stove such great camping gear. However, just as with tents and sleeping bags, the wrong stove can ruin your experience. Many camp stoves run off butane canisters, but don’t perform well in very cold weather, and that’s when you should use propane stoves. Also, choose the size of your camp stove’s burners carefully; if you use large pots, a small burner will heat unevenly, which is certainly not what you want.

People who are seriously interested in hiking often wonder whether faulty hiking equipment can ruin a hiking expedition completely and what the risks are of using lesser quality hiking gear. There is little doubt that hiking gear on the lower end of the quality scale will only cause you to be disappointed in your outdoor experience, and therefore it is better to look for quality and durability in hiking equipment at the outset, and thus avoid disappointment later on.

Trail Of Tears Hiking | Arizona Hiking

October 27th, 2007 | Rod | Hiking

Some hiking trails have a more significant history to them, such as the Trail of Tears, which is a National Historic Trail, tracing the route of the Cherokee during their forced removal from their homelands. Going from Tennessee to Oklahoma, this trail is a good destination if you’re looking for a hiking trail that offers a bit of historical significance as well as sport.

Keep in mind that while the air is hot on Arizona hiking trails, the ground will be absorbing plenty of that heat and radiating it back out, which means you’ll be gaining a lot of heat through contact with the ground. By wearing socks that insulate, such as neoprene socks, and covering your body to insulate and protect you from the sun’s rays, you’ll be able to keep cooler than you would in sandals and shorts. There’s a reason why desert nomads in the movies are always depicted as wearing robes that cover everywhere; that insulation protects them from the blazing heat.
