California Camping | Camping Showers

August 31st, 2007 | Rod | Camping

In California the Angel Island Park is situated in close proximity to San Francisco Bay and this site can be reached by ferry boat where you get to see outstanding skylines and the quiet of the area certainly enhances the camping experience, and the view of the Golden Gate Bridge is splendid, if nothing else. However, campsites are limited though you can take to the trails and take a general tour of the island where you will also find bike rental shops and a few more retail outlets as well.

With just a few materials, you can make your own camping shower that works great and is easy to bring along with you on your camping trip. It’s a great way to get friends or family members to camp with you when they normally wouldn’t, and the materials can be so little that you can even dispose of the camping shower when you’re finished using it. An option for making your own camping shower is to simply get a tarp to work with. Getting some easy to bend wire and making a large circle with it, connect one end of the tarp around the circle to make a shower curtain. Once that’s done, use a tall plastic tubing to hold it standing up in the air so you’d be able to stand inside of the tarp while it hangs all around you. To get the water flowing, use a part of a hose, cut to fit the length of the shower curtain from top to ground. Using a bucket full of water, put one end of the hose in the bucket, with the other end connected to the top of the shower but leaving some of it to hang towards the ground inside the shower curtain. Simply give the hose a quick suck, and the water should be flowing! Now you have yourself a homemade camping shower that can be used over and over again, or you can come up with a simple model that is easily thrown away after use on a camping trip.

Camping Hammocks | Sleeping Bags

August 31st, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Camping hammocks are very different one from the other and this especially applies to hammocks as a whole group. Hammocks not only have versatility in their favor on the average. But all of them and each of them individually offer relaxation and serve as a tremendous means of comfort for those who need them most. A good many hammocks are also not high in cost and they can serve for different purposes considering the needs of each owner per se. Despite their differences though all hammocks do offer relaxation with each and every one of them no matter what else they have.

You want to be able to get good and restful sleep at night, and so a camping equipment item you will need is the camping sleeping bag, which should not be bulky and should in fact is compact as well as light in weight. Hiking Packs | Wolf Hiking Sticks

August 30th, 2007 | Rod | Hiking

Larger than daypacks, hiking packs made specifically for backpacking generally feature some sort of frame as part of the pack, which allows the pack to support heavier loads, as well as to redistribute some of the weight off your shoulders and to your hips. While these packs are sturdy, the frame actually adds to the total weight that you’ll carry, so be prepared to shoulder a heavy load when using these hiking packs. If you do plan to have an overnight, but aren’t up to shouldering a heavy load, consider a rucksack, which is essentially an oversized daypack, allowing you to carry plenty without a framed pack. But whether your hiking packs are large or small, be sure to give them a try in the sporting goods store so you know if it’s comfortable to wear, and you’ll be happier on your hike.

When you take your Wolf hiking stick hiking, you can use it for many different purposes. First, you can use it to simply aid in your walking. If you have it in your hands and use it on the ground this is going to give you more strength and you’ll find that it is easier for you to walk along. Using a Wolf hiking stick is going to give you more leverage as well, which means that you’ll be able to steady yourself and be better prepared to navigate some of the more challenging terrain along the way.

August 30th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Camping may not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but a family camping trip can make for a truly memorable vacation if everyone is eager to try it. The thing to remember about family camping trips is that everyone will be living right on top of each other for the duration of the trip. You may think you do this at home, but it is far from the same thing.

Backpacks are vital pieces of camping equipment that a camper cannot do without and these should also be carefully chosen. You can choose from internal frames, external frames or frameless backpacks. If you are going to be camping for many days, you could opt for external or internal frame backpacks, while frameless backpacks are well suited for carrying light loads. If you are going to carry much weight, ensures that your backpack is comfortable and still able to handle higher weights. And, the backpacks ought to be water-resistant and have shoulder straps, hip belts as well as side pockets and even sleeves for hydration bladder, at the very least.

Luxury Camping Gear | Arizona Hiking

August 29th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

There has recently been a switch in the type of camping some people enjoy. There is now luxury camping gear available to the outdoors crowd. Many of these seem like a little over the top but people are buying them and the market continues to grow. Luxury camping gear items are expanding rapidly. One of these items is the Martin Backpacker acoustic guitar. For people who know nothing about guitars, Martin is the oldest guitar manufacturer in the country. Many are hand made. The Martin Backpacker is only thirty- five inches long and costs around two hundred seventy dollars. This is a must have item for the camping musician.

It should seem obvious, but when hiking in Arizona, it helps to have plenty of water with you to replace what you lose through sweating. Keep in mind that you should err on the side of caution and bring more than you need so you don’t get dehydrated. Learn where water stations are on the trail and refill your water containers whenever possible. Staying properly hydrated is one of the most important things that you can do when hiking in Arizona.

Used Camping Gear | Expedition Camping Gear

August 29th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

The main benefit of buying used camping gear is, of course, the lower price you’ll pay for items. However, the great thing about used camping gear is that often people will sell the gear they have after using it once or twice. Usually, it comes from people who buy a bunch of new gear to try camping out and decide that it’s not to their taste. What this means is you get gear that’s nearly new for much less than you’d actually pay.

Before you pack your expedition camping gear take the time to lay it out and visually inspect every item to make sure it is in good condition, then look at it again to insure that you really need it. There are some who pack books and magazines for the times when they may get bored and all they do with them is bring them home, unopened because when they had time read, it was too dark. Every piece of your expedition camping gear should be scrutinized the same way. If you do not think you will use it, do not take it with you.

Camping Checklist | Camping Accessories

August 28th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Often times, campers may need to make choices regarding different items of equipment and gear, and so you will need to weigh the pros and cons of each item on your camping checklist and make informed decisions about the usefulness of each. You may need to choose between takings along a tent or opt instead to stay in a shelter. Shelters will let in the cold and so a tent may be more suitable as it offers more protection from the weather, and use of tarp is especially recommended to keep out rain. You should also include in your camping checklist use of ground cloth such as tarps or plastic that can keep the moisture from affecting you while you sleep on the ground. Another most essential item you must tick off on your camping checklist is the sleeping bag. Be sure to choose one that is properly rated for weather conditions that you are going to encounter on your camping trip. Obviously, it won’t make any sense to take a sleeping bag meant for extremely cold weather when taking a summer camping trip and vice versa.

If you are going tent camping then you will want all the basics and even some added camping accessories. You will want a stove and some cookware, sleeping bags and air mattresses, lanterns and a screen tent along with whatever else you might think of for camping outdoors. If you have a site with electricity, you might even bring along the television and microwave. The screen tent can be used as a kitchen and sitting area. This makes it nice to put the microwave and the television and if you have one with privacy flaps, you can prevent anyone from seeing inside. This could be placed right outside your sleeping quarters, which makes it nicer in the morning.

Baby Camping Gear | Camping Gear

August 27th, 2007 | Rod | Camping

Beginning with the trip home from the hospital ever parent knows that traveling anywhere with a baby requires basic necessities like a well stocked diaper bag, and some emergency items stashed in frequently traveled places like the car or grand parents houses. Finding the right baby camping gear is no exception, a babies first camping trip will need a portable crib, a baby carrier designed to be worn on the front or like a back pack depending on the age of the baby, climate appropriate clothing as well as rain protection of some sort, sun screen, insect repellant, and a very well stocked diaper bag. A good recipe for a well stocked diaper bag will include enough diaper changes for one day (plus extras in mom or dads gear), a sturdy changing pad, at least one change of clothes, two or three zip-top storage bags of 1 gallon size, a few toys, a few snacks(if the baby is eating solids), a full refill of wipes kept in a zip top bag (wipes are worth their weight in soap and water on the go), and any feeing needs the baby may require (pacifiers, bottles, extra formula, water).

The next time you go on a camping expedition make sure that you have all the necessary camping gear and equipment with you if you want to get the most out of the outdoors. You will be going to places that may not have adequate facilities and thus must have on hand items that will come in handy when you travel in the back country, or somewhere far removed from civilization. After all, the whole point of going camping is to enjoy what nature has to offer and what better way to enjoy it than to camp in the midst of unspoilt nature. Camping gear and equipment are freely available and you will need to think about essential items first before you add on extras. Tents, accessories like a sleeping bag and a lantern are obviously items that you can ill afford not to have. You will also naturally need to have food and water, and if you happen to be going to cold places, then items of winter gear will have to be added to the camping gear and equipment that you take along.

Hiking | Camping Tents

August 26th, 2007 | Rod | Hiking

Hiking in itself is an excellent way to get a cardiovascular workout. Remember to always get a check up from a doctor before beginning any type of physical activity, including hiking. The goal is to get outside and enjoy the scenery and get a decent workout at the same time. Nobody wants to plan a hiking trip to somewhere far away and then not be able to enjoy being there because you aren’t fit enough to take on the task. Before leaving, start walking in the neighborhood to build endurance and make each walk a little longer than the day before.

You may well be able to get a tent that will sleep six to eight people, and has zipped off bedroom compartments so everyone has their privacy, but there is only a thin layer of material between sections. It’s hard to escape other family members if you want a bit of peace and quiet, so you may want to buy two smaller tents instead if you are willing to give the teenagers some responsibility.
